@ A quota for ciswomen? (ser:chspotraptiouse) Submitted § days ago by Bitterlnjury need some casual advice. thought I'd ask here. Recently we chose some new people for leadership roles in our socialist org (don't have permission to use the name here). Our members are pretty overwhelmingly cis, male, white; fairly standard stuff I'm sure you've seen before. Anyway, to try and address this and avoid being too androcentric, we had 50% of roles reserved for women. After the decisions were made, every woman chosen was trans. At this point I should say we're extremely fortunate to have so many talent transwomen working with us. I'm not doubting that these individuals are "real women", however it feels notable we still have a complete absence of cis-women. I know being cis isn't marginalized or oppressed, so maybe a quota for cis women seems unusual, but I do think there are aspects of misogyny that only Cis-women experience (reproductive health, childhood sexualization, etc). I'd also like to think that if we made our decision, and we ONLY had cis leaders, we would be compelled to make a quota for trans comrades as well. I've only talked about this with one person, they're trans. They suggested instead of cis-women, to have a quota for people with uteruses, which includes both cis-women and transmen. to me this seems like a pretty medically intrusive and essentialist category, which I think people might find more offensive than cis positions. 18 comments share save hide snitch
