Don't tell a trans woman that she "doesn't understand what it's like to grow up a girl". (erie) submited 5 days ago by VivisAwesome22 So Iwant to dispel a myth about being trans: I've heard a lot of trans allies suggest that I didn't experience childhood as a girl, which is patiently false and is marginalizing to trans women. My girlhood just looked a little different than it did for other girls. The truth is that I was always a girl and I knew it from a very young age, but instead of having my girlhood celebrated, it was actively repressed by everyone around me and turned into full biown self loathing. So next time you want to suggest that a trans woman doesn't understand what it is to grow up as a girl in this culture, think again, just as much as anyone we understand so deeply and painfully what it means to have grown up little girl with the world forcing gender stereotypes on us. 33 comments share save hide 133 comments - sorted by: best v- Want to add to the discussion? Like yeah we experienced life much differently than cis boy counterparts but we did not live a girls childhood is what that means. We were girls. That's not in question. But how we experienced life until we transition is not the same. permalink embed save give award
