4 & r/asktransgender - Posted by u/Jane_Batman 4 days ago T Parent Question- School Stuff This may not be the right place, sorry. Didn't know where to ask this and my family and I are not having much luck talking it out. I have a 3 year old(who I'll call "Riv")who I am pretty damn sure has gender dysphoria. As soon as they could talk(and Riv is very verbal, super articulate) and learned "boy/girl" they've been adamant they are a girl. When asked if they have a girl body or a boy body Riv will say "I have a boy body, I have a penis. But I'm a girl. When I grow up I'll be a girl". No matter how many times we went over the differences between girls and boys they won't budge. Riv throws an absolute raging tantrum if called a boy, wears only "girl" clothes and is very sure she wants to be a mommy when she grows up. So we're kinda just going with it. If this is a phase that's fine, if it's not that's fine too. But I'm not going to try to shut it down and force Riv to act like a boy because I know that would be damaging. It has been about 2 years of Riv saying this stuff and we're realizing it's probably not going to change any time soon. My issue now is they will be starting school soon. Preschool or daycare. Until now I worked from home but we moved to Florida and I'm looking for a new job. So Riv has to go to school. And I'm terrified. I'm pretty sure the other kids won't even notice. Riv has long hair and looks like any other little girl. But the teachers will know and idk how that will go down. Riv is not fully potty trained so someone is gonna notice they have a penis even if they don't notice that I marked "Male" on the registration form. How do I handle this? What do I say to staff? I don't think gender specific bathrooms will be a problem in preschool but what if they are, how the hell do I handle that? Riv will refuse to use a boys bathroom. I'm lost here. And I know how friggin crazy it sounds to worry about a 3 year old being trans but if you met this kid you would understand. So, advice? I'm searching for a psych in the area to talk to but I'm having issues with insurance and I'm sure there will be a waitlist anyway.
